Chapter 48: The Adventures of a New Adventurer
The auction ceremony of Starlight Trading Company is in full swing, but for 99% of the people in Rose Lowe, neither the auction ceremony nor the divine relics have anything to do with them, and they still live their own daily lives.
Outside the gate of Rozerowe, near the border of the Sloda Forest, a young boy and a young girl were cautiously exploring something in the jungle.
"Sister Nilu, isn't it said that goblins like to sleep in the grass the most? How come we haven't seen a single goblin after searching for several days?" the young man in rough chain armor asked the girl.
"I don't know, Chris. You'd better be careful. I always feel something is wrong." The girl in cloth clothes took a cheap staff as thick as her arm and carefully peeled away the grass in front of her that was almost as tall as her.
To her disappointment, no trace of them was found in this place, which was one of the goblins' favorite places.
"Wow, no!"
Chris sat down on the ground, wailing with a bitter face: "It's been three days, why can't I find a single goblin."
"Don't be discouraged, Chris. The Sloda Forest is so big, there will definitely be lone goblins." Nilu comforted.
"Hey, Sister Nilu, why don't we go a little further inside? Maybe the goblins are having a party inside."
Chris seemed to feel that he had come up with a good idea.
His words scared Nelue, "Chris, stop joking. We're in the inner area of the Sloda Forest. The monsters and demons there are not something we can deal with."
That's right, on the outskirts of the Sroda Forest there are only goblins, dryads and other not-too-strong sub-human monsters, which is already a big challenge for the two novice adventurers. If they go deeper, they might encounter piglets, ghouls and other monsters that can only be fought by adventurers above the Black Iron level. It would be very dangerous for the two rookies to run into any of them.
"But there are less than two days left. If we fail, we will lose ten silver coins, which we have worked hard to save for a long time. And we will never be able to become adventurers again." Chris said, biting his lip.
"But..." Nilu was a little shaken, but she still found it difficult to agree with Chris's idea because it was too dangerous. In deeper places, even Iron-level and Bronze-level adventurers would have to team up to explore.
"Sister Nilu, everyone in the village is waiting for us. Aunt Saran, Uncle Jesse, and the village chief have paid such a high price for me to come to the union to learn skills. How can we back down because of such a small difficulty?"
"This..." Nilu seemed to recall the final farewell words of the villagers, or that scene had never disappeared from her mind.
"Nilu, Chris, you are the hope for the future of the village."
"You must keep going, we will always be waiting for you to come back."
The poor village placed all its hopes on young boys and girls with warrior and magical talents. The villagers hoped that they would become strong and change the fate of the entire village.
The only wish of the whole village is to let the children no longer suffer from hunger and cold, and let the elderly enjoy their old age.
"Okay, but you must not go too deep."
Taking a deep breath, Nilu agreed to Chris's proposal.
"Yes!"
Chris immediately jumped up from the ground, looking excited.
After a short rest, the two continued their adventure, but this time they were much more cautious.
Chris drew his sword, crossed it over his shield, and carefully explored any area where goblins might appear.
Nilu held up her staff and murmured something, and an almost invisible transparent wind enveloped the two of them.
The apprentice magic 'Wind of Detection' can sense the slightest movement around within a certain range. This is one of the only three magics that Nilu knows.
The humidity in the Sloda Forest was very heavy, and the scent of grass and trees constantly entered the lungs, making it a little difficult to breathe. However, Chris and Nilu had obviously undergone a certain amount of training, so this level of problem was nothing to them.
The problem now is that the two of them have been deep in the inner area for a long time, and the scope of their exploration is far beyond the areas they usually set foot in. Looking around, the rows of towering trees are dizzying. The only discordant thing is that the two of them have not encountered a single monster in a whole day.
This is a very unscientific phenomenon. Not to mention the huge number of goblins, even the low-level monsters called tree spirits that can be seen everywhere have disappeared completely.
The Slodar Forest seemed eerily quiet. "Chris, let's go back. I have a bad feeling."
Nilu held her robe tightly together. She always felt a chill deep in her bones emanating from the depths of the Sloda Forest.
"…Well, the sun is about to set. If we don't go back now, it might be really dangerous."
Although he was a little unwilling, Chris still decided to give up.
For these new adventurers, wandering around in the Sloda Forest after dark was simply a suicidal act.
"Well, let's go."
The two began to return along the same route, following the marks they left along the way.
"Ahhh, what should I do? What's going on lately? Where have all the goblins gone?"
Chris kept complaining along the way.
"It's not just the goblins, it seems like many monsters have disappeared." Nilu said with her lips pursed.
"Eh? It seems so. Sister Nilu, we haven't found any monsters in the past few days. It's really strange."
"Could it be that something happened in the deepest part of the Sloda Forest? Did all the monsters run in there?"
"Chris! You don't want to go to the deepest part of the Slodar Forest!
Nilu said anxiously: "Don't mess around."
No one knows Chris's character better than Nilu. The two of them have been childhood sweethearts in the village. After their talents were discovered, they were sent out together to explore the world early on. It can be said that even Chris's parents don't understand him as well as Nilu. After all, the two of them have spent 80% of their time together from birth to now.
If Chris hadn't had Nilu to keep him in check, he would have probably gotten into trouble a long time ago.
"Haha, of course I won't..."
When Chris was halfway through his words, a low roar of a monster came from the distance.
"Quack!"
The two of them shuddered almost at the same time.
"This sound is..." Chris' eyes lit up and he said happily, "It's the cry of a goblin!"
Then he immediately turned around and ran in the direction where the sound came from.
"Hey, Chris, wait for me!" Nilu was anxious and hurriedly followed.
"Haha, Sister Nilu, we are so lucky that we met the goblins at the last moment." Chris could not hide the joy on his face.
"Chris, that direction is beyond the inner area. It's very dangerous. Why don't we try again tomorrow?"
"Sister Nilu, you've seen that the situation in the Sloda Forest is so strange. If we give up this opportunity, we may not be able to complete the mission in the next two days. That would be terrible."
"But…"
Although what Chris said made sense, Nilu was still a little worried.
"Don't worry, Sister Nilu. You just heard it. It was the goblins' voices. There were no other monsters' voices. It's okay. We'll go back and celebrate after we complete the mission."
Chris said so.
