Chapter 307 The Origin of Merit
Jiuhua mountain.
There are many temples in the mountains, and they are very popular.
This is the temple built by Dizang over the years.
Mortals are ignorant, so he only needs to use a few tricks to make countless mortals kowtow and make vows before the Buddha statue, just to satisfy his own selfish desires.
Deep in this mountain, there is a golden Buddha statue leaning against the cliff, as if it was carved out of the mountain wall.
Observing the posture of the golden Buddha, one can directly feel that he is as peaceful and immovable as the earth, and contemplate deeply into the secret treasury.
It is the golden body of Ksitigarbha.
The golden body is 16 feet 6 inches tall, and is named the 16-foot-tall golden body. It is also the object of Ksitigarbha’s golden immortal fruit.
As a great disciple of the Western religion, it would be abnormal if he did not have a golden body formed by his merits.
The golden body of Ksitigarbha suddenly moved, as if he thought of something incomprehensible.
Not long after he returned from Taiyi Zhenren's Taoist temple, Qianyuan Mountain, he noticed something strange.
In his perception, a golden light appeared in the east, which represented that a new golden body of merit was being conceived.
how can that be!
Apart from the two saints, he is the only golden body of merit in Western religion.
Even if there are extra merits, they should belong to him, Dizang, and not to anyone else.
As long as he accumulates enough merit, he will be able to cultivate the Hunyuan Dao Fruit and attain the position of Buddha in this world.
The two saints would not withhold merit. After all, the foundation of Western religion was too weak, and it urgently needed a disciple who could hold up the pillars.
What does it mean to be able to hold up the main responsibility? It means to cultivate into the Immortal Dao of Hunyuan Daluo Jinguo, just like the Taoist Duobao of Jiejiao, the Taoist Randang of Chanjiao, the Taoist Xuandu of Renjiao, and the ancestor Caiyun under the seat of Nuwa.
Forget it, Patriarch Caiyun has been removed from the list.
Dizang erased Caiyun’s name from his mind.
In the immortal way, the Hunyuan Daluo Jinxian can be called the Heavenly Venerable. In the Buddhist way, it means becoming a Buddha, or the Buddhahood.
The Daluo Jinxian of the immortal path is called the Bodhisattva in Buddhism.
As for the Golden Immortal, it corresponds to the position of Arhat in Buddhism.
He, Ksitigarbha, is still only a Bodhisattva now, and is still a little bit away from becoming a Buddha.
Although this is not a lot, it is like a chasm, which is so close yet so far away. Without the right opportunity, he will never be able to cross it in his lifetime.
Countless heroes in the ancient times were blocked at this last step and found it difficult to achieve the Hunyuan Dao Fruit.
What’s more, he is Dizang, a descendant.
Every extra bit of merit can bring Ksitigarbha one step closer to becoming a Buddha.
Therefore, he was naturally paying close attention to the embryonic form of this new golden body of merit.
It was as if his Buddhahood had been robbed, and Dizang felt an inexplicable jealousy and hatred in his heart.
Ksitigarbha counted the merits gained from daily chanting of scriptures and offerings from his disciples, and found that there was no decrease at all.
Where does the extra merit come from?
Merit is a system unique to Western religions. After the two saints in the West made great aspirations to the heavenly way, a pool of merit appeared. The immeasurable merit in the pool pushed the two saints to the level of saints.
The infinite benefits of merit are the foundation of Western religions. Countless Buddhist disciples practice hard just for the little merit that is rewarded every day.
Where does the name of merit come from?
Ordinary Buddhist disciples are not aware of this at all, but he, Ksitigarbha, as a great disciple of the Western religion, is very clear about it.
The reason why the two saints were able to become saints was because of the killing calamity caused by Luohou in the past, which made the prehistoric world red and the Styx overflowing with blood. If the monstrous karma in the sea of blood overflows, the prehistoric world will be destroyed in the blink of an eye.
Even if Hongjun Daozu destroyed Luohou's body and soul, it would be difficult to eliminate the heinous crimes that Luohou had committed with the Zhuxian Sword Formation.
Therefore, the two saints made a great vow just now, declaring that they would eliminate all karma in the world, but they were not strong enough and hoped that heaven would have mercy on them.
The Heavenly Dao was moved, and the desire to survive forced the Heavenly Dao to create something called merit. Every bit of karma corresponds to one bit of merit. The two saints became saints by relying on the merit they received on credit from the Heavenly Dao.
Over the years, the debt of merit of the two saints has not been repaid, so Western religion has been seeking expansion.
The more disciples they have, the more merit they can gain every day.
If a disciple recites the "Amitabha Sutra" and the "Cundi Sutra on Eliminating Karma" ten times every day, a little merit will be generated from the merit pool.
Thirty percent of this merit will be retained by the merit pool to maintain the merit pool, thirty percent will be taken by the Two Saints of the West to repay the debt of merit to Heaven, and then thirty percent will be taken by the saint's direct disciples to condense the golden body, and the last ten percent will fall into the hands of the Buddhist disciple who recites the scriptures.
After taking stock, Dizang found that the merits he had obtained all along had not decreased. So where did the extra merits from the east come from?
"Maybe there is something wrong with Lingshan!"
When Dizang thought of this, he was shocked.
Golden lotus of merit!
He hurriedly called over Taoist Dog and asked him to recount what had happened that day, requiring him to include every detail.
At this time, the Dog Taoist has already condensed his body into a lotus root, but his body is extremely small. Compared with ordinary wild dogs, his real body is as big as a mosquito.
The Taoist Dog spoke the story tremblingly and carefully.
"You mean, Taoist Mosquito didn't let you enter the Merit Pond, but kept you waiting outside it?"
Dizang noticed something unusual and questioned again.
"Mmmmm~"
The dog Taoist nodded, staring with a pair of watery dog eyes, which were particularly prominent compared to his body shape.
"There must be something to hide behind this cover-up! The fact that Yang Jian was able to convince Taiyi Zhenren might be related to this!"
Dizang stood up. He was not angry, but the aura he emanated from his body made all things prostrate themselves.
The originally sharp rocks of Jiuhua Mountain have now become rounded.
He glanced at the Taoist Dog and said, "You old dog, why didn't you tell me about this when you came back that day?"
Taoist Dog hesitated for a long while before speaking: "When I brought back the lotus roots, I was about to form a flesh body, and I was excited for a while, so~~"
"Are you worried that I will take back the lotus roots after I know something has changed?"
Jizo asked.
The Taoist Dog nodded slowly.
"Boom~"
Jiuhua Mountain was suddenly hit by lightning, thunder, wind and rain, as if the sky was upside down.
"Stupid dog misled me!"
Dizang sighed, raised his hand, and was about to kill the stupid dog to vent his anger.
The Taoist Dog kowtowed repeatedly: "Buddha, please spare my life, Buddha, please spare my life, this old dog knows his fault~"
Seeing this, Dizang felt compassion in his heart, and the attack that was originally intended to destroy his soul suddenly changed, and only knocked the dog Taoist's soul out of his body.
Then he waved his sleeves, and the aura of Fengdu appeared. The eighteen levels of hell opened up one by one, filled with eerie ghostly auras and wailing sounds.
The golden body of Ksitigarbha exudes holy Buddha light, which is entangled with the breath of hell. It appears abrupt and harmonious, benevolent and cruel, as if it should be so.
The Taoist Dog went straight in while whimpering.
"Since it is not easy for you to practice, I will spare your life. After you have been punished in the eighteen levels of hell, come back to discuss right and wrong with me!"
After Dizang finished speaking, he leaped away to the west.
He wants to go to Xiniu Hezhou to see what happened in Lingshan!
"Friend Mosquito, I just hope you don't seek your own death!"
