Chapter 211 Basics
A stone broke the window and headed straight for Lanya who was lying on the bed.
A hand grabbed the stone. The priest of the God of Life at the window grabbed the stone.
Then there were cries and shouts outside.
"Go and ask them to release the person. It's a time like this."
Lannia's guards below had already pinned down the ogre child who was throwing rocks at the building. However, the goblins and ogres had completely surrounded the small building, and the guards' blockade seemed so fragile in front of the crowd that the ogre child crashed in.
After seeing these human guards holding down the ogre child, many goblins even smiled as if they were saying "finally I get the chance to take action."
"Your Majesty has ordered that they be released."
The guard stood up at the command and let go of the ogre child he was holding down. The ogre was stunned. The development of the matter was different from what the goblin who pushed him in said. With his current IQ, he didn't know how to deal with such an unexpected situation.
So he stood there, looking around, searching for the goblin among the crowd outside the blockade. Soon, he saw the goblin waving at him to come back.
Lanya, who propped herself up on the bed and looked out the window, also saw the goblin.
"He's not a big shot. He probably just wants to release his anger."
Lannia knew all the prominent "people" in the goblin city-state, and the instigator was not one of them.
"Remove the blockade. All we need to do is control the entrance and exit of this building."
Lanya picked up the tea from the bow and took a sip. She was still waiting for a reply from the church.
"However, simply guarding the entrances and exits does not guarantee safety."
Many of the goblins and ogres outside were holding torches in their hands. Not to mention removing the blockade, if the blockade line was moved back ten meters, the ogres would be able to throw torches into the small building.
"It doesn't matter, just do it."
The guard hesitated for a moment, but finally conveyed their king's order.
The guards began to retreat. The angry goblins and ogres did not seem to have anticipated the guards' move. They were stunned for a moment before they took a step and ran towards the small building.
"What do you want to do?"
An old goblin appeared in front of the angry goblins and ogres.
"Look, whose property is this?"
He pointed to a doorplate nearby, on which was written a name, "Popov". This small building belonged to this "person".
He is the head of the labor and personnel department of the Goblin Chamber of Commerce.
With just one word from him, he could decide whether 90 percent of the goblins and ogres currently gathered outside this small building would be able to work in the Chamber of Commerce next month.
"You can make as much noise as you want outside, but if you go any further, it's private property."
The old goblin turned around silently and walked to the door of the small building. None of the angry goblins and ogres outside were willing to take another step forward. They could only stand where they were, unable to move forward or backward.
"What drives them here is anger, and confrontation only intensifies that anger, and once they can't find their enemy, that anger will quickly fade."
Lanya didn't even look out the window again. She flipped through the documents in her hands, which recorded the church's recent actions and the impact of their actions.
"The goblins' money was spent in the right place."
The priest of the God of Life sat back in his seat. He could already confirm that there would be no danger tonight and he would not need to take action himself.
On a night like this when he needs to be on duty and the patient is not seriously ill, there is nothing more pleasant for the priest of the God of Life to take a short nap secretly. Lania watched the priest of the God of Life in front of her fall into a light sleep.
She sighed.
These priests of the God of Life should have realized that they probably won't have as much leisure time as they have now.
Next, they will have many opportunities to save lives.
"Have you always been inciting hostility towards other races?"
It was not that Lannia did not notice that the thoughts in the church had changed and a lot of groundless hatred began to appear. From that time on, the core decisions of the kingdom were no longer transparent to the church, and some Shadow Crow scouts were also deployed near various large churches.
These measures were not a very friendly move towards the kingdom’s long-time allies.
The Pope should have noticed these measures taken by Lannia, but he did not make any statement. At some times, the church even added a visiting day so that those who did not believe in the sun god could enter the church for a visit.
Although on the surface this was to spread the faith in the Sun God, in reality, it allowed Lannia’s people to simply go deeper into the church and find out more information.
From the report in her hand, Lannia could see how hatred had been repeatedly stirred up between the priests and the believers during this period, becoming increasingly stronger.
"It seems that there is no way to continue this negotiation."
Judging from those reports, as long as he signed a new agreement with the goblins, those civilians would probably really regard him as the king who "betrayed the interests of mankind and should be cursed for endless years" as described by the church.
Even so, he could still use some means to slowly reverse the public opinion against the church.
But this is only possible if the goblins can continue to trade as before, allowing Lannia to artificially create differences in living standards among those influenced by the church through goblin goods, thereby causing conflicts among their own groups. As long as their common goal is eliminated, these public opinions will not be a big deal.
But now, it looks like the goblins will never be the same again.
At least until the extra sun in the sky disappears and the sunlight returns to normal, their public opinion is not enough to support the Joint Ministerial Conference to continue negotiations with humans and maintain trade.
"Sir, the goblin representatives are waiting for your reception."
Lania put down the documents in her hand and straightened her appearance a little.
"Let him in."
The goblin representative walked in. At least for now, he was still very professional and maintained a serious diplomatic etiquette. After performing a set of cumbersome diplomats' greetings to the king of another country, the goblin spoke.
"The Joint Council of Ministers asked me to inform you of their decision."
Lania knew what he was going to say and held out her hand, motioning for him to continue.
“Due to recent events, the Joint Ministerial Conference concluded that there was no basis for the two sides to continue negotiations and decided not to renew the agreement.”
Just as Lania expected.
"After you have recovered sufficiently, the goblin troops will escort you and your delegation out of the country. The date will be determined by the priests of the God of Life."
This surprised Lannia a little. She thought the goblins would immediately expel her and her delegation.
After all, every day she stays here, the ministers will have one more thing to deal with.
These goblins are still thinking about how to continue making money in her kingdom after the situation calms down.
"As expected of a goblin."
