Chapter 206 Sacrifice
The sun shines on the earth.
In every sun god church, there were bursts of prayers. They recited the great deeds of the sun god and thanked him for bringing sunshine to the world.
In response to their prayers, the church was filled with warm sunshine.
The darkness was dispelled and people stood in the sunshine again.
But in another land, the sunlight shining on the ground is different.
In the Crusader camp, the priests prayed loudly, the sunlight slowly spread over, and every sacrifice touched by the sunlight began to burn, and then an even stronger light burst out from the body.
Although the sacrifices did not know what happened exactly, anyone with eyes could see that those who were touched by the sunlight were definitely dead.
They began to panic and tried to hide from the spreading sunlight.
But they were surrounded by priests, and under the priests' prayers, golden chains completely blocked them in the sacrificial site.
The high priest looked at the sacrifices below, watching them either trying to break through the chains made of divine magic, or trying to find a shaded place where the sun didn't reach in the sacrificial site.
"May the sunshine always be with you."
He whispered prayers, and in other parts of the Principality, the priests of the Church of the Sun God were chanting the same prayers as he was.
After this prayer, people should leave the church and start a new day's work under the sunshine.
Meanwhile, back at the camp, the sun was devouring the offerings.
Most of the sacrificial site was illuminated, and for the sacrifices, they only had one chance, and that was the barracks of the crusaders next to the sacrificial site.
That was the only place around them that could block the sunlight for them. But in front of the chains made of divine magic, the barracks that were so close to them were just out of reach.
"Soon."
The sunlight bursting out from the sacrifices seemed to have substance and was gathering above the sacrificial site. A small sun was slowly rising.
"what is that?"
The Principality's army in the distance finally approached close enough to visually identify the interior of the camp, and they also saw the sun rising with the death of the trapped civilians.
That ray of sunlight also swept across the approaching Principality troops, and then, flames also ignited on the bodies of several soldiers in the Principality troops, and then, brilliant sunlight burst out from their bodies, just like those soldiers trapped in chains.
“They are all believers who have participated in the Sun God Cult’s prayers.”
The officers quickly ascertained the situation at hand.
"Let all the followers of the Sun God Cult who have participated in the prayers in the rear troops retreat and leave the battle."
The troops of the Principality were very wary of the belief in the Sun God Cult, and all believers who had participated in the prayers to the Sun God were recorded on a list.
"Let the crossbowmen start shooting, and the other troops continue to advance."
"At this distance, it's up to fate whether you can hit anything you throw at it."
The adjutant reminded the commander. He was not questioning the order, but was only reminding the commander in a tactful way that this order would cause a large number of casualties among the abducted civilians.
"We must disrupt the magic of those priests now, otherwise none of them will be able to escape."
The adjutant said nothing more and raised his hand. "Crossbowmen, prepare to launch the projectile."
The drummer at the side began to beat the drum at his waist. The order instantly spread to the marching troops. The drummers stopped and began to turn the capstans of the heavy crossbows in their hands.
"They are too late."
The sun devoured more and more of the offerings. The elves drew their bows.
One of the sacrifices suddenly found a crack on the chain he was pulling. He was overjoyed and tried his best to increase the strength of his hands.
The cracks on the chain expanded rapidly and broke, and soon a small gap appeared, at least enough for one or two people to get through. The sacrifice was ecstatic, and got through the small gap, then ran towards the barracks of the crusaders not far away.
But then, a divine spell fell on him and knocked him down.
"Enemy attack!"
A paladin in heavy armor supported a fallen priest and placed his body under the protection of his shield. There was an arrow stuck in the priest's forehead, and the light green light on the tail feathers of the arrow was gradually dissipating.
"The power of the God of Nature."
It's not that the Crusaders didn't set up defenses around them, but the power of the sun obviously couldn't stop these arrows. Several clergymen fell to the ground, and some gaps appeared in the divine chains.
"Stand up and continue your duties."
The high priest slammed the scepter in his hand to the ground, and the fallen clergy stood up again, knelt on the ground, and continued their prayers.
The elves were skilled archers, and every arrow hit the vital points of these priests. The lives of these priests were slipping away quickly, but this did not seem to affect them at all, and the power of the magic still overflowed from their bodies along with their prayers.
More arrows flew towards the Crusaders in the camp.
A trace of the power of the God of Nature was attached to each arrow. They penetrated the defenses set up by the Crusaders and accurately pierced the vital points of those clergymen.
However, none of this seemed to stop the priests from continuing their prayers. The sun was still spreading in this sacrificial site, and the offerings were ignited by the sun, bursting with light and becoming part of the rising "sun".
A terrifying power emanated from this sun.
"stop."
The elves' commander stopped shooting.
After seeing that the dead priests were still praying, the elves' commander knew that the current situation could not be solved by mortals like them.
The souls of those priests have returned to the embrace of the sun, but under the influence of the "sun" formed by the sacrifice, this area has been partially transformed into the kingdom of the sun god. Therefore, those souls can still stay here for a short time and continue their unfinished prayers.
The sun before them was different from the degraded divine magic that could be cast by mortals. That "sun" truly involved the power of the gods. Once it involved the gods, it was no longer something that mortals like them could influence.
"Great Mother, I dedicate everything to you. Please look here."
Every elf is a natural believer of the God of Nature. According to the outside world, each of them can become the favorite of the God of Nature. According to the outside world's classification, this elf commander is also a priest at the level of the chief priest.
Of course he could call upon his own gods.
And the benevolent god of nature also followed his call and cast his gaze over.
